All about Feng Shui and your home

Many people confuse feng shui as a type of mystical belief. In its truest sense, feng shui is nothing but a technique used for aligning the energy of a space. Even with this knowledge, some people end up mixing religion and spirituality with feng shui. To those who don’t know, feng shui can feel a little obscure, but taking the time to understand these common-sense practices make our homes healthier and more organized—and in turn, can affect our mood and well-being.

Below are 6 tips for aligning your house with the basic principles of Feng Shui.

  1. Slow down energy flow: If there is a direct line-of-sight between the front door and the back door, the chi (or energy) shoots through the house very fast. Instead of having it fly straight out the door, channel it in a graceful undulating way that goes around your whole home evenly. Slow the chi down with a nice patterned carpet or rug on the floor, art on the walls, or even a round centre table.
  2. Keep your house clutter-free and organised
It’s pretty obvious, yes. But the thought of to tackle around the house, we are all too guilty of accumulating things in our home. Clutter stops us from having clarity of thought and can weigh us down emotionally. Feng shui is more about creating a happy and healthy environment.

3.Maximize the flow of Natural Light
Natural light can make us feel happier and more positive. There’s a joke that goes “Mirrors in feng shui are like aspirin, they're prescribed often to treat many ailments.” Let natural light enter your home and make sure mirrors reflect more light, a serene view, or an expansive part of the room.

  1. Balance the natural elements - The five elements—earth, wood, fire, water, and metal—can be made to co-exist in your home either physically or symbolically. For example, you could bring the fire element out by using warmer tones, like reds and oranges, or burning a candle.

All these and more feng shui practices can and will enhance your living experience and home decor as well. Stay tuned to our blog for more interesting and insightful tips.
